Yellow Roses Seen As A Sign Of Friendship

Yellow roses are the color you would send for graduations or to make congratulatory statements. They have long meant to be a symbol of friendship or platonic meanings. Sending yellow roses to a loved one may find the sender in hot water, trying to explain why they think of a true love as simply a friend.

It was not until the early 18th century that yellow roses began to see popularity, although they had been growing naturally in the middle east. In the early part of its evolution, yellow roses lacked the perfumed scent of other colors and it took years of hybrid breeding to join other colors in their aroma. During their introduction, the color yellow was often associated with the color of the sun and was held in a positive light.

In the east the color yellow often stood for wisdom and power yet in England at that time yellow was considered more negatively and yellow roses have become known as a sign of jealousy and love gone bad. Today they symbolize friendship and platonic relationships. There are few flowers that can instigate the feelings of close friendship as yellow roses and a bouquet of them are often used to symbolize congratulations for a variety of achievements.

Yellow Roses Offer Nothing Through Romance

Many other colors of roses bring about many romantic feelings, such as red for undying love and devotion and pink, which symbolizes early romantic emotions. Even light pink indicates initial feelings of closeness, but yellow over the years has come to be an indication of close friendship without the romantic overtones.

Many times bouquets may hold yellow roses as miniatures or in their typical garden rose size, occasionally including some of the larger ones, but they could be as a get well gesture as well as a meaning of friends. Some countries, however still perceive the color yellow is meaning infidelity and jealousy.

In addition to colors of roses having special meanings, the number of roses included in a bouquet also have meaning. For example, a single red rose can convey the message of love at first sight, or the giver remains in love with the recipient. A single rose of any color, including yellow roses is a sign of simplicity or as a thank you.

A dozen roses is asking the recipient to belong to the giver and two dozen is often seen as a pledge to remain faithful forever. A group of 999 roses is an indication of being together through eternity while only giving 108 roses is asking to be married.
