World Time Clocks -Shrinking The GlobeThere are different types of world time clocks varying with the information they can provide. Many hotel foyers and airline offices have a series of clocks that display the time at important world cities like New York, London, Paris and Tokyo. There are several fancy wristwatches that display times in two or more different cities of the wearer's choice. While these times are not on constant display, a minor adjustment will display the time in Zurich or Canberra, while the wearer is in Mumbai. By far the most popular world time clocks today are on the computer or Internet. There are various websites, which will give you the time in different time zones when you click on the city. In these days of rapidly advancing technology, when mobile phones, palmtops, and Blackberry instruments, multi-functional gadgets that can be carried in the pocket, world time clocks are now virtually at one's fingertips. The Various Uses Of World Time Clocks It is hard to think of anybody in today's world who has no use for world time clocks. A mother, who wants to stay in touch with her children at school far away from home, would find one invaluable. Social networking on the Internet depends on world time clocks to decide mutually convenient times for "netizens" around the globe. The entire service industry with offshore back office processing, takes advantage of time zone differences across the globe. A wife wanting to call a globe trotting husband, or friends who now live in different corners of the globe, or business associates in different continents, can prevent major blunders of time differences by referring to world time clocks. It now seems hard to imagine a world when the only way of international communication was by what we now derisively term as snail mail. Perhaps world time clocks were only part of geography lessons in those days. All that has changed today! The world has become a global village that is getting smaller and smaller every day.
