How to Use a Wireless Broadband Router

The internet has come a long way in the last twenty years. Today, most Americans are connected to the Internet in one way or another. Now, with the growing popularity of broadband internet service, the need for routers in homes is greatly increasing. Many people access the internet via a wireless broadband router.

What is a Wireless Broadband Router?

A router is a device that takes several computers and allows them to access the Internet using the same internet service provider address. ISP routers also work as firewalls and network hubs. Most people use routers every day when accessing the Internet in public locations, such as at work or at the library. If you frequent Internet cafes with your laptop, you have used a wireless broadband router to access the Internet, without even knowing it.

How a Wireless Broadband Router Works

A wireless broadband router allows multiple computers to access the same Internet connection without the use of wires. The router has a radio antenna that communicates with a card in the computer and this allows the computer to connect to the Internet without wires. Wireless broadband routers allow laptop users to access the Internet from anywhere in and outside the house, as long as they are within range of the wireless broadband router.

The great thing about getting a wireless broadband router is that most of today's computers come wireless enabled, especially the laptop computers. This means that if you set up your house for a wireless network, you should not have trouble getting your computer compatible. If your computer is not enabled with a wireless card, it is easy to install one, provided your operating system is updated enough to run a wireless network.

Setting up a wireless network in your home is easy. Start by buying a wireless broadband router that is compatible with your computer and Internet connection. Connect the router to the modem, and connect an Ethernet cable to the router. At this point, connect your modem according to the software provided and connect the wireless adapter if needed.

It takes little more than an hour, with minimal computer understanding, to install a wireless broadband router. If you think you might be interested in having a wireless network in your home, then you need to keep your eyes open for a great deal on a wireless router. Once you have your router, all you have to do is set it up.
