Creative Wall Painting Techniques

Do you have a room that needs a face lift, but you're tired of the same old same old? Are you running out of ideas to keep things fresh looking. Maybe it's time to take a look at some creative wall painting techniques. Many people change the paint schemes inside their homes quite often. Not necessarily because it needs it, but sometimes they just want to give a certain room a fresh look. Some people do it simply because they enjoy painting. If you're one of these people, you have probably realized that it doesn't take long to run out of color combinations. Trying one of these unique wall painting techniques can help you create that special look you've been wanting.

Rag Painting And Sponging

One way to add some life to a room is by rag or sponge painting. Using these wall painting techniques can help you create some interesting and attractive patterns. Obviously, before starting any painting project, the area should be properly prepared, and the surface should be clean and dry.

For rag painting, you'll need to get several rags made of the same material. This will keep the pattern and texture consistent. Put some paint in a shallow container or pan. Then, roll up the rag and dip it in the paint. After this, you simply dab the rag on the surface of the wall. Be sure the rag isn't overly saturated with paint or you will end up with runs and drips. Continue to gently dab the rag on the wall to create a unique pattern. When the rag becomes to saturated, start over with a fresh one. Instead of dabbing the rag on the wall, you could start at the top of the wall, and roll the rag toward the bottom. Be careful when doing this, though, or the rag will slide on the wall and ruin your design.

This same technique can be used with a sponge, and will create a totally different look. You can use the dabbing method, or a kind of half rolling motion to change the look a bit. You can add even more variety with these wall painting techniques by using more than one color as well. Using blue and white, for example, will produce a finish that looks similar to marble.

Stencils And Stamps

Some of the most popular wall painting techniques involve using stamps and stencils. Stencils for wall decorating are available in a wide variety. You can stencil simple borders or very detailed images and scenery. Whatever your taste, you should be able to find a stencil to satisfy it.

Stamping is also becoming quite popular among wall painting techniques. Just like stencils, stamps can be found in many different designs. Some stamps allow you to put very detailed designs and scenes on your wall.

Murals

Murals are another way to turn a room into a piece of artwork. A mural is a detailed scene that is painted on the wall, and can include anything you can dream up. Don't be discouraged if you have no artistic ability. You can probably accomplish this task easier than you think. You can purchase images that can be projected onto a wall with an overhead projector. All you have to do then, is follow the pattern. You'll be surprised at the professional looking scenes you can create. Murals are great for decorating a child's room.

These are just a few of the creative wall painting techniques that are out there. Any one of them can bring that drab old room back to life.
