New Vegetable GardensMake it close to the house and the person won't have to carry vegetables for a long distance. The area where the garden is to be should be tilled and bordered. The soil needs to be readied for the vegetable garden, dirt mixed with good top soil and other rich things will make the vegetable garden perfect for the plants. If there is good soil then there will also be weeds to take care of. Make sure to keep them in control. One thing that some people like to do is to have an area for plants that come up on their own each year. Plants like horseradish, strawberries, and asparagus will come back every year without having to plant them. Rhubarb is another plant that will come back every year. When a person has these and other vegetables, it makes it easier to have a garden. Plants that will come up every year are hardy and can fight off diseases and pests. If the person who plans to have these types of vegetables has some room, they might also want to plant some fruit trees. All of this produces fruit and vegetables that will continue to provide food every year that a person lives there. The Costs Of Vegetable Gardens When people decide to start a new garden, the initial cost might be more than what the store bought food would cost. Once the garden is established the costs will decrease considerably. It is almost no cost at all. For those people who have plants that come back on there own, there really isn't any cost involved. For others, if they plan on buying the vegetable gardens plants from a nursery they may find that the garden becomes very expensive. Some people like to try to grow seeds indoors for their plants. Almost any plant can be started this way and once there isn't any fear of a frost, they can then be put outside into the vegetable garden. This is a great cost saving measure since the seeds are much less expensive than the seedlings. Even if the cost runs high a person is sure to be rewarded with delicious vegetables that they can feel proud of. |
