Scooter Tuning Safety Tips

Safety is probably one of the last things on your mind when you're considering scooter tuning. But you can still get a powerful scooter without risking your life before you ever get on your news and improved scooter. First off, scooter tuning is going to cost you a pretty penny to get it done right - whether you do it yourself or hire someone else to do it. Don't let anyone tinker with your scooter just because their services are cheap. Expect to invest in proper scooter tuning.

Do Your Research

Although there are some things you can only truly learn by doing, you shouldn't risk your prize ride to a trial and error scooter tuning course. Have a bit of patience and do some research to find materials and instructions that clearly let you know what you need to do and what tools to do it with. You can find these on line, from scooter clubs and conventions and from publications.

Find A Good Work Space

Before you start any scooter tuning, you need to have a work area. Don't assume that you can just dissect your scooter on the front lawn. You need a place where you can move freely, get to your tools easily and not have anything become damaged by oil, grease or gas. You need a well-ventilated place, because some of the chemicals in scooter tuning will make you dizzy.

If you work outside, then you need a flat area of concrete. A level space for scooter tuning will mean that when you set down a tool, it won't roll away. You also need to be sure little kids or inquisitive pets don't decide to trot off with your tools when your back is turned. If your friend has such an area, ask if you can work there rather than at home.

If you decide to do your scooter tuning in a garage, make sure it is neat and not cluttered up with papers and junk that can easily catch fire or trip you up as you're walking around. Again, you need to have it well-ventilated. Check the electrical outlets and circuits before you get to work to make sure they are not going to spark and set off a fire.

If your parents or the owners of the garage are not happy with your motor scooter tuning plans, then they might thaw out once you have made the effort to clean up the garage. In these hard economic times, some people actually rent their garage out, even it's attached to their home. They might also rent out half of their garage.
