Quality Picture Available On Satellite TV Channel

A satellite television receiver can help those outside the receiving area of broadcast television and in areas where cable is not available receive quality television. You can have your choice of which satellite TV channel you choose, provided it is included in the package you have signed up to receive.

Once you have agreed to a specific plan, the satellite TV channel you have chosen will be one of several available for you. The descrambler card in your satellite receiver will be programmed with all available channels, and when you select one of the satellite TV channels to view, it will isolate that one signal and send it through to your television. While the receiver is actually receiving all of the channels you opted for, only the one selected will get through.

Most receivers will only allow one satellite TV channel to be viewed at a time and if you have two television sets connected to the same receiver, the same satellite TV channel will be shown on both sets. Many satellites now have the option of having two low noise blockers (LNB) connected to allow the satellite TV channel to be sent to two separate receivers simultaneously.

Recording Different Shows Now Possible

If your satellite receiver has the capability for two lines being input from the satellite dish, it is possible to view one satellite TV channel while recording a second channel. If your television has the picture-in-picture option, you can see the different channels at the same time. However, which satellite TV channel you can view is determined by the card in your receiver.

One of the chief advantages of satellite television is the ability to receive more channels than with regular UHF or VHF television. These signals beamed from an antenna need a direct line of sight for your home antenna to pull it in. The signal strength of the originating signal must also be strong enough to reach your antenna and the typical longest range is about 50 miles with line of sight. A satellite TV channel is also dependent on line of sight, but since it is coming from a satellite 7,000 miles above the Earth, the line of sight can cover about a third of the globe.

Many of the newer satellite receivers operate in the digital mode and most have the option to send out digital signals to your high definition television, provided the satellite TV channel is broadcasting in HD.
