Using Retro Décor To Enhance Your Home

In recent years, the popularity of retro décor has skyrocketed. Because the style is eclectic, there are many design options when using items designated as retro. The term "retro" is defined as anything old-fashioned, timeless, or classic. Because this term applied to a wide range of objects, almost anything created before 1990 can be classified as retro.

Where Can I Find Retro Décor?

Retro décor can be found in any store that sells home décor products. They will usually be housed in their own section, rarely intermixed with the popular new products. Because retro décor is considered timeless, you may find items from the 1930's all the way to the 1980's in this section, as retro items are rarely separated by decade. Many products found in the retro section of the home décor store are pretty unique with maybe one or two others available for purchase.

Old-Fashioned Signs

A very popular item of retro décor is the old fashioned sign. These signs advertise anything from baking soda to horseshoes. Many people like these items because it reminds them of a simpler time, like when you could buy a pair of shoes for 10 cents. The signs come in different colors, styles, and sizes, but are mainly made of metal, which would withstand the elements when the sign was created. Some companies specialize in creating new signs in the retro style to reduce the cost of the sign and ensure its durability.

Retro Radios

Another popular item in retro décor is old fashioned radios and clocks. From the 1930's to the 1950's, radios were a major portion of the family's entertainment, much as televisions are for families today. The manufacturers of these radios used creative designs and colors to give their brand of radio a competitive edge against the competition. The result was beautiful creations unlike anything else in the world. Replicas of these radios using today's technology can be purchased anywhere that radios are sold.

Jukeboxes

Perhaps the most desired, and most expensive, item of retro décor is the jukebox. A true jukebox is hard to find and may cost thousands of dollars to own. Because they are so expensive, jukeboxes purchased to display in a home are typical used as decoration only and will never play a note. The jukeboxes may range in size from two feet tall for a tabletop model to five or six feet in height for a large floor model. Considered the epitome of retro décor, securing a jukebox to add to your collection portrays you as a hard core collector of retro items.
