How to Buy a Persian Rug

If you are interested in buying a Persian rug, there are a few things that you are going to need to be aware of. Of course the first step should be learning more about the Persian rug and what it actually is. A Persian rug is an Oriental rug that is specifically woven in the country of Iran or if it is an authentic antique it will have been woven in the former Persian Empire.

Persian rugs are very beautiful, and there is often a competition between the Persian rugs and the Oriental rugs, which are not made in the United States although there are many copies found in North America. Antique Oriental rug models are also very beautiful.

Wool

One of the biggest factors you need to take into consideration when purchasing a Persian rug involves the type of wool used. Handspun wool, as it is less perfectly spun, will accept the colors of the dyes at different depths of the same shade, and as a result will show more variation in color than the machine spun wool.

Therefore those that are handspun are much more valuable and sought after. More recently, new production using vegetable dyes and handspun wool has begun to appear in various areas.

You really need to be knowledge on the Persian rug selection and be aware of how to tell the differences, so that you know when you are getting a great deal.

Keep in mind that the Persian rug makes are all beautiful works of art, which never completely reveal themselves on first glace. However, if you take a bit of time and check out the details, you will be able to see the differences and know whether you are picking up a great, valuable Persian rug or not.

Where to Shop

If you want to buy one of these rugs for yourself, you should know that there are many terrific options available to you. The best idea is to stick with a familiar name, one that is recognized in the industry so that you know you will be getting the highest quality rug at the most affordable price.

The bottom line is that Persian rugs are absolutely beautiful, and you can do so much with them. Whether you want to actually use them as a rug near your front door or to create warmth in the living room, or perhaps you want to keep it in mint condition and hang it on the wall or keep it tucked away in a back room.
