Easy Ideas For Painting Kids Rooms

A coat of paint is an easy way to redecorate a room. It is inexpensive, relatively easy to do, and does wonders in changing the look of a space. Painting kid's rooms is a great way to change the style or look of your child's special space. With a little planning and creative thinking painting a kid's room is easy to do.

Painting Kids Rooms Rule Number One: Choose Paint That Grows

When you first bring your baby home from the hospital, it is so tempting to splash up pastel colors and have a darling nursery. However, when it comes to painting kids rooms, some color choices just aren't practical. The baby you bring home today will be a toddler soon and then after that an adolescent, so unless you want to repaint in a year or two, keep long range room color plans in mind when you paint. That doesn't mean that you can't paint your new daughter's room a pretty pink with teddy bears, but just keep in mind ways that you can later make it more age appropriate as she grows.

Some great ideas for painting kids rooms that will grow with your child are to paint simple colors, primary colors, or plan to later add a mural or wall paper border that contains characters or themes that interest your child.

Painting Kids Rooms Rule Number Two: Choose Paint That Isn't Too Permanent.

We are human. We change our mind. Keep that in mind when you start painting kids rooms. Be careful when using dark colors or colors that are hard to cover. Red is notorious for bleeding through later lighter coats of paint, so think long and hard before you paint a crimson room. If you are absolutely set on painting your kid's room dark navy or black, consider buying textured wall paper that is made to be painted on. Later if you decide you want a lighter color, you can just remove the paper and repaint the wall.

Painting Kids Rooms Rule Number Three: Don't Skimp On Quality

There are some rooms that you can paint with cheaper grades of paint, but a kid's room is not one of them. Children have been known to write on walls or wrestle around leaving unexplainable scuff marks. The fingerprints alone make buying higher quality paint worthwhile. The walls in your child's room will be washed and washed often. You don't want to use cheap paint that erodes a little with each washing.
