When to Choose Oak Flooring for Your Home

Oak flooring is an excellent choice for those places where you want great elegance but is protected from any type of water spills. Water is one of the greatest enemies of oak flooring since even a little spillage can totally ruin its show. This is why oak flooring is not used for kitchens or any other places where there is a high possibility of any type of humidity or water spillage. The strongest point of oak flooring is its beauty and sophistication. If you are on the look out for something that is exceptionally elegant and sophisticated, then there is no other flooring that fits the bill better than the oak flooring. Its deep color and wood texture can astound you. This type of flooring is durable and long lasting for which it became the first choice of people who are in love with the rich look of wood. Since, the wood-like background is universal; it can accommodate and form the backdrop for any type of interior decoration from ultra modern to ethnic look with equal ease.

The oak flooring is an old and trusted type of flooring and many prefer to play safe by choosing it to the myriad of new flooring choices available today in the market. Its beauty, elegance, and durability further popularize it with the modern crowd. If you look for sophistication and beauty then oak flooring is the best thing for you.

The Cons of Using Oak Flooring

As mentioned earlier, you can never use oak for places where water and humidity is the order of the day. You also need to keep in mind another very important thing about oak flooring. It gets scratched and marked easily. Hence, this type of flooring is not advisable for places where there is a lot of traffic (i.e. where many people move around with shoes and all). It has been observed that oak flooring darkens over time if exposed continuously to direct sunlight, hence you can use it best only in rooms where it is customary to keep the curtains closed and have the minimum possible direct sunlight spill on the floors, i.e. bedrooms, libraries, etc.

Lastly, this type of flooring is definitely costlier than most other types available in the market. The fact that it needs constant care and protection from spillage, rough usage and the like makes it difficult to choose it as the overall home flooring. However, its richness, sophistication and extreme beauty puts it above all the first choice for bedrooms and all such rooms where you want an intimate and elegant look. This is that type of quality that deserves the extra dollar it demands.
