The History Of The Moped Scooter

The Moped scooter is a cross between a motorcycle and a bicycle and this is more evident when looking at the history of the scooter.

During its early days, the moped scooter was really a bicycle with a small engine attached. As people were experimenting with not only making horse drawn coaches into an automobile, scooters were also being experimented with, as some of the early models can be dated as far back as 1886. This evolution occurred at the same time as engines were being developed and made into cars and most of the focus was on that development so during this time period the scooter was more of an after thought.

Of course, the engine size had to be scaled back in order to accommodate the size of a bicycle and pedals, gears and brakes all had to be adjusted accordingly. This process took time and was not always a popular choice for consumers to consider.

After World War I the production of the cousin to the moped scooter, the motorcycle was in big demand in Europe. The motorcycle had been used during World War I and was economical for the area and many consumers were realizing the benefits of a motorcycle, but the scooter was not far behind.

However, after World War II, the moped scooter became a more feasible mode of transportation and the production surged in Europe during this time period. Most of these early models had a 50cc gasoline tanks and were 2 speed equipped.

The moped scooter continued to grow in popularity and by the 1960's was seen all over Europe and Asia. They continued to evolve and the engines became more efficient and were able to go faster, but still unable to compete with the motorcycle. The moped scooter was however able to maneuver into areas around cities that motorcycles were not, giving it an edge in the market of big cities.

The Future Of The Moped Scooter

With gas prices soaring, and the abundance of fossil fuels diminishing, the moped scooter looks to have a bright future. Not only are manufactures looking into developing electrical scooters, just the traditional scooter can save a consumer on gas and help the environment with lower emissions than cars.

The moped scooter is a survivor that many are now taking another look at. With advances in technology continuing to influence the development of more efficient transportation, the moped scooter is sure to be on the forefront of this trend.
