Memorial Candles Help you Remember a Special Moment

Marriage, death, anniversaries or even the birth of a child are the perfect moments when a memorial candle could be used as a symbol of remembrance. Most of us have seen unity candles at a wedding, and many have seen those used to remember a deceased loved one, but why is it necessary to stop there?

Weddings

Immediately following the wedding service, the newly married couple turns to face the audience and approaches the table where the unity candle is set up. Each person then picks up a lit taper, and together they light the memorial candle. Sometimes the entire gathering of friends and family joins in the festivities by holding and taking turns lighting tapers.

Anniversaries

After the wedding, one way to continue the tradition of the memorial candle is to repeat the unity ceremony at each anniversary. The couple can also include friends and family if that is the type of symbolism that the couple is interested in. As each year passes, the memorial candle becomes shorter and shorter, which is an ideal way to symbolism the lasting unity found in marriage.

Births

How about starting out a new life with your infant's own memorial candle? In much the same way that these candles symbolize the unity between a man and his wife, a similar ceremony can easily be arranged to welcome the new baby into the family. With each passing year, the candle could again be lit, reaffirming the bond that exists within the tightly knit family. The memorial candle ceremony is a traditional way to symbolically show the unity within a new family, so why not include baby?

Deaths

While it may not be possible to have the eternity flame like John F. Kennedy, it is possible to mark the passing of a loved one with a memorial candle. Every year on the birth of that missing loved one, family and friends could gather and light a memorial candle while remembering the fun and laughter that the person brought to others. What better way to remember that special loved one than with a memorial ceremony?

Most of us have witnessed or even been a party to a wedding that included a memorial candle ceremony. The bond that is created in that room when man and wife symbolize their bond by simultaneously lighting a flame can easily be replicated to memorialize other important moments like anniversaries, births and even the death of a loved one.
