The Art Of Landscaping

Landscaping is the general term for making modifications or changes in the land area. Integrating plants, man made structures and other changes to an outdoor or indoor area is usually considered landscaping. There many ideas by which designers or landscape artists base their designs. The more usual designs included water forms or rock formations by which plants are then added to complement the design.

Things to Consider Before Landscaping

Before starting the landscape project, there are several things that the artist and owner must consider. One of these things is the impact of landscaping on the current land area. If the area were a natural pond or a bigger area where several species of insects and animals reside, then consideration of their welfare should be a priority. Whereas, if the area to be landscaped is just a small garden area then the owner and designer should have no problem agreeing on something.

Another thing to consider before the project commences is what plants are suitable for the area. Landscaping an area means that there will be some digging and additional soil will be added to shape the area according to the desires of the owner and design of the artist. Plants will need to be chosen carefully if the end result of the landscaped area is a pond or a rock garden. Suitable plants will be available in nurseries or other plants' store.

More things to be considered is if there is a water source nearby for the future needs of the plants and what kinds of rocks or pebbles or other materials should be integrated in the landscape. Some landscape artists leave the natural land formation alone and just augment some rocks or small trees to make it more interesting. Landscaping a natural landform is sometimes more difficult than making an entire area.

There should be a natural blend of nature and the implemented landscape. It will not work if the landscape looks unnatural or forced into the area. Landscaping usually takes a few days or even some weeks depending on the work that needs to be done. The overall results of landscaping will not be fully appreciated until the plants have adapted to the area and the rocks or pebbles do not have the "new" look anymore.

Some designers often integrate a manmade structure to the area. These are usually gazebos or small houses or even some fountains or birdbaths. These manmade structures are usually made or natural materials so as not to conflict with the natural beauty of the area and plants. Landscaping around a manmade structure is not a problem as long as is complements the plants and the design of the area.
