Laminate Wood Flooring: The Next Generation of Home Floors

Laminate wood flooring is an affordable alternative to natural hardwood floors. Although laminate wood flooring is just a relatively new flooring option, it has improved to produce durable, good-looking and quality floors. In fact, the new generations of laminate wood floors are difficult to tell apart from authentic hardwood.

Any personal taste and style can easily be impressed by the wide variety of choices of laminate floors, in both colors and styles. You could buy any kind of styles, from laminate wood flooring that mimics natural hardwood to those that imitates ceramic tiles. You could also choose the tone of wood style - dark tones to produce a more formal environment, while light tones produce a more spacious-looking room.

Laminate wood flooring is available in virtually all flooring stores, home improvement centers and even discount shops over the internet. The only things to consider about laminate wood floors are the design, style and color of the material you want. Once you decided on these factors, you can easily find the right flooring to fit your needs.

How to Install Laminate Wood Flooring

Laminates, which are also known as "floating floors", are not attached to the floor below. Instead, they are held in place using special adhesives that are designed for laminate wood flooring. The great thing about laminates is that it can be installed over your old tile, vinyl or wood flooring.

Although you can simply hire a professional to install laminate wood flooring, the installation process is straightforward for anyone to do it himself or herself. If your floors have carpet or other kinds of padding, remove them before installing the laminates. Once removed, check the wood sub-floor or concrete if it is leveled.

An average-sized room can be installed with laminated over a single weekend, while larger areas should be done over a longer period. Although hiring a professional to install the laminate wood flooring for you could cost you money, it is the best way to go if you're a very busy person.

For do-it-yourself types, read the instructions from the manual before cleaning the new laminate floors. Use a vacuum or broom to remove debris and dirt. When the floor gets extremely dirty, you can clean it with a damp mop. However, other than occasional cleaning, laminate wood flooring needs minimal maintenance.

Laminate wood flooring is generally made of durable materials that could last as long as authentic hardwood floors. With a more affordable tag price, lesser maintenance and better wood choices, laminate wood flooring is the best way to go.
