Home Improvement Tips to Help Sell Your Home

If you are trying to sell your home and haven't had any luck, try these home improvement tips to add value to your home. However, before indulging in an expensive bathroom or kitchen remodel, always make an appointment with a decorator or realtor to get professional advice as to whether this is the best use for your money.

It could be that you can invest $15,000 more in your home in the hope that you will make it back when you sell your home for the asking price or something close to it. However, only a professional who specializes in selling homes and is familiar with your area can give you home improvement tips of where best to spend that $15,000.

Target Market

You also need to evaluate what the target market for your home is. Is it a young family with small kids who would like easy to wash walls and non-slip staircases or is it empty nesters who want all the classy upgrades like solid oak doors and vaulted ceilings? You may feel a Jacuzzi in the bathroom is a great idea, but the realtor's home improvement tip may advise that a new bathroom floor will liven up the place; a Jacuzzi is only on the minds of some buyers, not all.

Experts do suggest that usually a kitchen or bathroom remodel gives the best return on money; however you need to know where to draw the line. Some things like hardwood flooring will always add value to your home. Other newer variations like laminate are better than vinyl and are much easier to clean, something buyers with kids or pets will prefer to high maintenance hard wood.

Another home improvement tip is to splurge on granite countertops and tile backsplash as they are two kitchen upgrades which many people like and are willing to spend more on. Easy slide open cabinets and organized pantry shelving are other extras that you can consider.

Neutral

At times it can be as simple as making your home appeal to a wider number of people. You may love your sunny, yellow kitchen but others may not. Toning it down to lemon yellow or better still beige will expand your target market. After all, you can paint your next kitchen yellow, orange or whatever you like.

Organize

Organization is another thing many people like. They may not keep their own closets or garages neatly stacked but they want to see it when they are house hunting. This home improvement tip works to your advantage because once your stuff is organized, you can show every square inch of space you have as well as get rid of your unnecessary clutter.
