A Guide to Home GardeningGetting Started There are a few things that you are going to want to think about when you are getting started with home gardening, and one of the things you will want to ask yourself first is what landscape design style you like best. For instance do you prefer straight or curved lines? So you want to cover a smaller or larger area? These sorts of questions are going to be crucial in regards to your home gardening design overall. You are also going to want to consider the width that you should make your flower beds, as your flower beds are generally what you design the rest of your garden or landscape design around. When garden planning, typically beginners tend to make their beds too narrow because they are intimidated by the task of filling them. You basically just want to aim for making a planting bed that is wide enough that it will be able to accommodate three layers: front, middle and back. After all, a flower bed that is narrower than five feet will not be able to properly allow for the layering effect that gives a flower garden design the lush look that is strived for. As well in your home gardening design process you want to consider how much sun your garden is going to get, as this is truly a key to garden planning overall. Remember that most flowering plants love sun, and this means that they will typically need about six hours or more of direct sunlight a day. However there are also those plants that need more shade during the day, and so in order to be able to work your design out properly you are going to have to learn about each plant that you are incorporating so that you can learn about the temperatures and schedules that they need so that you can best determine a site for your garden. As well if you are a beginner you are going to want to stick with plants that are easier to maintain, so that you can learn as you go on and then you can begin to introduce more complex plants into your design. |
