Proper Heating Duct Insulation Helps Heat Up Your Room At A Lower Cost

Proper heating duct insulation can help in improving the energy efficiency of a home even if the air ducts are situated in unconditioned places such as crawl spaces, attics or garages and even in basements. The main use of the ducting system in a building is to bring conditioned hot air from your heating system into the living spaces in the home or building and to also send back the same amount of air back to the heating equipment so that it can be conditioned over and over again.

Thin Metal Conducts Hot Air The Best

It is usual to have ducts made from materials made from thin metals because it enables them to easily conduct hot air and thus you will need the best in heating duct insulation if you want maximum heating since an improperly insulated heating duct can cause a loss of as much as ten to thirty percent of hot air through conduction. Once heat is lost, it would mean that the heating equipment would then need to compensate the loss of heat and requires additional conditioning, which will only raise the energy costs.

Proper heating duct insulation will also prevent loss of heat through conduction and thus prevents cold blow during the cool winter months. However, ducts that are located in conditioned spaces do not have any such problems with heat loss due to conduction since they are more or less conveying air at about the same temperature as is normally found in the indoors. Still, heating duct insulation even in such instances will help in prevention of condensation on the walls of the duct and it will also deliver conditioned air at the proper temperature.

To get the best out of heating duct insulation, you may need to hire a contractor who can separate as well as insulate the heating ducts and then attach the whole thing back to the ceiling, or you could choose to find heating duct insulation that is attachable to whatever heating ducts are already present and then use spray-on glue for the purpose. What is important is that you realize that with proper heating duct insulation, you can save many dollars on reduced energy costs.

Often, these ducting systems are not properly installed and not even properly insulated and thus will leak hot air into places where there is no heat and thus adds hundreds of dollars each year to your energy bills. Thus, if your ducting is in unconditioned spaces, you will find that heating duct insulation will prove to be very cost effective for you and will help stop leakages from occurring.
