Gas Water Heater Repair TipsThis will save you a great deal of time and money in the long run, but of course safety comes first. Never ever operate on any type of water heater without turning off the water supply and power first, and always use the proper precautions when you are doing any work on any appliance. Gas Water Heater Repair One of the most common gas water heater repair problems involves no hot water. If you are experiencing a problem where you have no hot water, you want to remove the inner and outer burner across covers and check to see if the pilot is lit. Also keep in mind that before troubleshooting your gas water heater you want to check for the odor of gas, and if you smell gas you want to call your gas supplier immediately and have them check for leaks. If the pilot light is not lit, the way you want to go about this is to attempt to relight the pilot light following the instructions posted on your water heater. If the pilot light will not relight, the problem could be a clogged pilot line, or gas is not reaching the water heater, check with your gas supplier. If there is a gas water heater repair problem with insufficient hot water, you want to check the thermostat because it may just be set too low. Also check for leaking faucets, and check the dip tube, if the dip tube has broken or fallen off, incoming cold water will be drawn out through the hot water outlet without being heated. If there is a popping or banging noise that you are hearing, know that scale can build up in the bottom of the tank causing all sorts of noises to occur while the water heater is heating water, so just try flushing the tank and see if this solves it. These are just a few basic problems and how to deal with them, so if there is another that you are having with your water heater obviously you will need to troubleshoot more. |
