Flea Pest Control Requires Concentrated EffortFlea pest control can be tricky since you have to treat the animal, the house and outdoors in order to get rid of the fleas as well as the eggs. It can take time and extra expense unless you know what you are looking for and the proper way to eradicate the problem. When treating the animal you should only use insecticides made for that animal. When using shampoos containing flea pest control insecticides, make sure the animal is thoroughly scrubbed around the base of the tail, back legs, the stomach and around the neck. The shampoo should remain on the animal at least 10 minutes in order for it to have the desired effect. Powders should only be applied outside around the tail and neck, as well as the stomach and rear legs. If you or someone in the house has breathing problems, you should use a different type of product. If using sprays as flea pest control, do not soak the animal, simply lightly spray around the tail, the neck and under the stomach. Most sprays should be applied once or twice a week. Cleanliness Helps With Treatment Of Home Bedding on which you pet is allowed to sleep should be washed in hot water and if they occupy a section of your carpet, steam cleaning will get rid of most of the eggs. The carpet should be thoroughly vacuumed to remove the dead remains. Carpeting requires a two-part flea pest control program, one with insecticide to kill the adult fleas and a growth regulator to kill eggs and immature larval fleas before they reach adulthood. To be effective, a powder that contains both an insecticide and growth inhibitor should be used. Eradicating fleas outside requires treating the dog house or kennel and other areas in which the animal likes to lay and play. Using a combination of insecticide and growth inhibitor will help solve the immediate problem and well as keep the younger fleas from reaching maturity. Most growth inhibitors will take about two weeks to neutralize all eggs already on the ground. |
