Keeping the Time Cheaply with Digital Clocks

Time is a very precious commodity, but the ability to tell time is yet more important. For hundreds of years, people have had to use the traditional clock with its two hands pointing to the respective hours and minutes. With the advent of the microchip, digital clocks have become popular in the past few decades. Because of their many benefits, these clocks are now the clocks of choice for most people.

Mass Manufactured

As with most products today, digital clocks can be mass manufactured to give customers a quality product at a much smaller cost than hand made clocks carry. Because everything in a digital clock is electronic, most of the work can be done with special lasers to create a proper microchip inside, just like a computer processor or motherboard. With nanometer precision, these clocks can be churned out by the thousands while retaining an extremely accurate measurement of time. Digital clocks can be bought for as little as $5 in the United States even less elsewhere.

Jack of All Trades

However, digital clocks usually contain other helpful tools bundled right into the package. Many of these clocks have a built in alarm clock so people can wake up at a scheduled time each morning. Some also contain radios, but more often these clocks are actually part of another product. Many home appliances such as microwave ovens and consumer electronics like cell phones now have digital clocks built into them.

Perhaps the best aspect of using digital clocks is their ease of use. With just one quick glance at the bright LED display, users can be on their way in an instant. With a traditional clock, they'd have to take a bit of time to decipher both the hour and the minute hands. Beyond the back lit display, digital clocks can also display in full 24-hour military time, leaving the guessing out of time of day. However, digital clocks are also extremely accurate. While not quite as accurate as a multi-million dollar atomic clock, these clocks can keep accuracy for hundreds of years before becoming as much as one second off.

The mainstream market is awash with clocks today as everyone keeps up with society's punctuality and on time mentality. Traditional clocks can cost hundreds of dollars, are often bulky, and require maintenance to continue operating. If you'd like an inexpensive clock that is extremely accurate without any upkeep, digital clocks are right for you.
