How Can Central Alarm Systems Help Me?

If you are contemplating security for your business and looking into what central alarm systems can do to protect you this article is here to help. There are several different types of central alarm systems and this article is going to take a look and try to define them.

What Makes Central Alarm Systems Different From Regular Alarm Systems?

The biggest difference between central alarm systems and regular plain old alarms is how it is monitored. For central alarm systems there generally are one or perhaps more locations where people actually monitor the system. In addition there are multiple components within the central alarm systems that people will monitor. Below are some examples of what they can keep an eye on.

If the doors, windows and other entry ways are properly set up with monitors on them a central guard can watch the main system to see what doors are open or closed and how recently they were used. In addition some central alarm systems take it a step farther by using key passes to get in and out that can transmit this information over to the person watching the system. While this is not fool proof, when coupled with other systems it proves very effective.

The next thing that central alarm systems can monitor is movement within the building. By setting up infrared motion sensors at strategic locations a good central alarm system can keep an electronic eye on an entire structure. This system combine with the monitoring of entries and exits makes it very difficult for anyone to move around the structure without being noticed. These systems are far less effective if there is many things moving in an area and as such are virtually useless during the day except to monitor an area where access is extremely restricted, like inside a vault for example.

In addition to those two systems the oldest and most tried monitoring device used in central alarm systems is the video camera. Again strategically placing multiple cameras around the building and tying them in with the other systems is a very effective way to keep tabs on building. With an effective team monitoring the system they can literally spot and identify trouble within seconds. After that it is up to the design of the central alarm systems that determine the response. Some security teams are capable of responding and dealing with the threat, others will need to wait until the police arrive.

Hopefully this article has given you some insight on what makes up different central alarm systems.
