Build A Gas Scooter For Practically NothingEven if the individual parts are second hand make sure that they all work properly before putting them together or you will build a gas scooter that falls apart in next to no time. You will need an old scooter and a chainsaw engine, that's it really. The Scooter The type of scooter that you use is very important. At one time scooters for children were all the rage and you could probably find a second hand one that is practically new for nothing. The thing is though that these types of scooters are not suitable. The wheels will not be able to handle anything other than pavement. Try it on rough terrain and you are sure to learn the painful way that rubber tires are the way to go. So when you decide to build a gas scooter choose a scooter with hand brakes and rubber tires. The Chainsaw Engine Leave the chainsaw engine in its casing, this will make it easier to mount onto the scooter. Take off the bar and chain from the machine. If your engine uses a 2-stroke motor then keep the centrifugal clutch intact. Otherwise remove it from the crankshaft. You will need to bolt one of the sprockets to the rear axle of the scooter. Now place the motor on the deck. You have to make sure that all the sprockets are inline or you will not be able to build a gas scooter. To fix the engine casing and the scooter together you will have to drill holes through both and then bolt them together. This step needs you to be quite exact in your measurements. If the housing is plastic this is especially so. If the washers and screws are not the right size you risk tearing right through the plastic. If you can get hold of an engine with metal housing then this would be a sturdier option. Attach a bike chain to the sprockets. You might have to shorten the bike chain by removing links so that the chain is taut. The next part in how to build a gas scooter can be a bit difficult. You need to wire the hand accelerator on/off switch to the engine while attaching it to the handlebars. You now have a gas scooter. |
