Things To Consider When Making A Braided Rug

Making a braided rug can be a fun project to do especially when you intend to display or use it in your home. Making a braided rug is fun and very fulfilling when done but there are a few things which one needs to consider before starting this project. A braided rug is a rug made of a twisted fabric which can be made of one single color or different colors. The size of the braided rug is determined by the maker and so are the colors and the kind of fabric to be used for the rug.

The Size And Shape Of The Rug

The size of the braided rug is one thing that needs to be considered when thinking of making one. This is especially so when there is a specific are which you intend to put the braided rug. The rug that you wish to make should be smaller than the area to make the placement more aesthetically accurate. The rug you intend to make should not be thick enough to make opening and closing of a door difficult also. This part is especially helpful when making a braided rug for entry ways or doorways. The reason for this is that some rugs are too thick to accommodate the small gap between the door and the floor.

Colors For The Rug

It is best to coordinate the colors of the rug you wish to make with the area you wish to place the rug in. This is to avoid potentially clashing colors. If you wish for the colors of your braided rug to clash, then make sure that the color clash is complimentary and not jarring to the beholder.

A braided rug can be used as a hearth rug. The important thing to remember when making it as a hearth rug is that it has to have some flame resistant capabilities. Some hearths are not closed and can be potentially dangerous when sparks fly. Positioning a rug in front of a hearth can be dangerous especially if the fabric is flammable. If you have doubts regarding the flame resistance of the hearth rug, then do not put it in place.

A braided rug can have a lot of functions depending on the materials used to make it. Wool is one material for a braided rug that has a lot of potential when it comes to being water resistant (for outdoors), flame resistant (for hearth and fireplaces) and longer resistance to wear and tear.
